Unmatched Views of the Competition
Get ready for an exciting experience at the 33rd FAI World Aerobatic Championships 2026 in Mason City, Iowa. Spectators will be positioned in proximity to the aerobatic box, ensuring unobstructed views of every maneuver. Your vantage point allows you to see each aircraft’s precision, speed, and artistry, along with ground-level views of the competitors and their planes between flights.
OPEN to the Public!
We are expecting an attendance of approximately 100-200 spectators per day. There will be dedicated areas around the airport on a first-come, first-served basis for viewing the championship. We are working to provide a comfortable and enjoyable spectator experience.
All spectators will have access to free parking, providing easy access to the viewing area. The primary parking will be in the terminal parking area with an overflow option in the grass. A spectator area will be set up East of the terminal, outside the fence. A diagram of the airport parking locations will be uploaded in the next few weeks.

Event Description
Aerobatic manoeuvres were first invented by early military pilots to escape from their enemies during the First World War but were further developed between the wars as a form of public entertainment and then, starting in the 1930’s, serious competition. At the World Aerobatic Championships, the best aerobatic pilots in the world fly exciting compulsory, unknown, and freestyle programmes.
This event will require pilots to demonstrate their ability to manoeuvre their high-performance aircraft at extreme physical limits and within a 1-km cube (the “box”) located just in front of the public.
The challenge of performing aerobatic figures precisely led to the development of aerobatic competition. The first competitions were held in the early 1930’s, at the Olympics in Berlin in 1936, and at various national competitions after World War II. FAI recognized the need for a sanctioned World Championships which led to that first post-war competition in 1960.
FAI Aerobatic Championships have been held since 1960, when the 1st World Aerobatic Championships was organised in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Competition has now evolved into several categories including Advanced and Unlimited in Power and Glider, YAK-52 World Championships, and a new FAI Elite Series.
